What you will do on your PADI Open Water Course.

30 Jun. 2023
What you will do on your PADI Open Water Course.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is a comprehensive scuba diving certification course that teaches you the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to become a certified scuba diver. The course typically consists of three main components: knowledge development, confined water dives, and open water dives. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect to learn during each component:

  1. Knowledge development: You will learn the basic principles of scuba diving, including dive equipment, diving physics, dive planning, and dive safety. This component can be completed through self-study with the PADI Open Water Diver manual, or through classroom sessions with a PADI instructor.
  2. Confined water dives: You will learn and practice basic scuba skills in a controlled environment such as a pool or shallow water area. This will include skills such as breathing underwater, clearing water from your mask, and recovering your regulator.
  3. Open water dives: You will apply the knowledge and skills you learned in the previous components during four open water dives in a natural environment such as a lake or ocean. You'll perform skills such as buoyancy control, underwater navigation, and emergency procedures.

By the end of the PADI Open Water Diver course, you will have learned the basic knowledge and skills needed to safely plan and conduct open water dives with a buddy, up to a maximum depth of 18 meters/60 feet. You'll be able to rent or purchase scuba diving equipment, and you'll have the freedom to explore the underwater world with confidence.
